Is strength training safe for my youth athlete?

There are many benefits to participating in a safe, well-designed strength training program. Despite misinformation about the safety of strength training for youth athletes, working with an experienced and qualified trainer can set up the athlete for long-term success in sport and life.

One common concern is the risk of damaging joints and the epiphyseal plate, or growth plate. According to the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), forces placed on the joints of young athletes while competing in their sport are far greater and more difficult to anticipate than the forces generated from resistance training.

As stated and supported by the NSCA, in addition to increasing muscular strength, power, and muscular endurance, regular participation in a resistance training program can result in a decrease in body fat, improvements in insulin sensitivity, and enhanced cardiac function among obese children and adolescents. The benefits also include increased bone density, and injury risk reduction.

Group Training

Train with your team or join an established group. Feel the camaraderie, make new friends, and get stronger, faster, and more powerful in a positive, encouraging environment.

Semi-Private Training

Enhance your experience by training with a friend. Get a customized training plan and coaching for you and your favorite training partner. Best results for most when the athletes participate in the same sport or have very similar training goals, though it is not required. Maximum number in the semi-private group is three athletes unless other arrangements are made. These sessions are scheduled according to the availability of the athletes and the coach. At least two athletes must be present in the session.

Private (One-on-One) Training

Get a fully personalized experience with private training. This features an individualized training program customized for your needs and one-on-one coaching during each session. These sessions can be scheduled according to the availability of the athlete and the coach.

Remote Training

Get many of the same benefits of training in person but do it on your own schedule. This is a great option for athletes who cannot make it to the gym or live outside of a reasonable driving distance. Let us know the equipment you have available along with your specific goals, and you’ll get a customized training program. Get text and/or email access, video critique, and coaching that will take your game to the next level.
